Methods
To achieve a broad data base for the development of the guidelines the data acquisition was based on four columns.
- Literature research
There has been an extensive and systematic international and national literature research on the concerned topics. - Quantitative and qualitative survey of practitioners as well as with experts and patients
Information about the demands and requirements on a cross-cultural competence training are elicited via questionnaires. - Execution of focus groups
In total 8 focus groups each with 8-10 participants were realized. Thefocus groups were made up of psychotherapists with and without migration background, two groups contained psychotherapists in further educational training and two groups included patients with a migration background. Half of the focus groups have been held in Berlin, half in Hamburg. What is meant by focus group? - Consensus process and expert conference
All experts taking part in the consensus process got the pre-processed results of the literature research, the surveys and the focus groups. The experts were asked to give their opinion. Following a multi-level selection procedure and an expert conference, all relevant findings have been excerpted and the guidelines have been approved.
